Dec 2000
   [07/12/00]  The Nestle Smartie Prize winners have been announced. Satoshi Kitamura was a Silver Award Winner in the 5 years and under age category with his latest book, Me and my Cat?. While shortlisted for the first Blue Peter Awards, The Ring of Words edited by Roger McGough and illustrated by Satoshi unfortunately didn't win.

   [22/11/00]  The Illustration Cupboard's new winter exhibition is now on display! Three works by Satoshi are available for sale, consisting of preliminary drawings for his collaborations including the very rare The Happy Christmas Book.

   [12/11/00]   Announcing the 2000 Competition for Satoshiland winner: Congratulations to Trina Samson who submitted the winning entry!! Your lovely prize will be making its way to you shortly.
    In March, an exhibition of the picture book art entitled Baker's Dozen will be at at Burry St Edmunds Art Gallery - and will tour later around the UK. The aim is to show how books are made ie, rough sketches and final pictures will be shown. Thirteen artists including Quentin Blake, Emma Chichester-Clark, Sara Fanneli and Satoshi will take part.
   Currently, there's discussion on joint and solo exhibitions next year as well as some animation projects for Satoshi.

   [05/10/00]   The animated series Sheeep will be screening in Australia on the ABC! It's scheduled to appear from Friday 3 November until Tuesday 21 November at 4:20p.m. Read a detailed description of the show at the ABC website - the series has been renamed as just "Sheep".
    Don't forget about the Satoshi Land competition!. Entries close at the end of this month. Remember that Satoshi Kitamura himself will be judging! But time's running out...

  [23/09/00]   Me and My Cat has been shortlisted for the Smartie Prize! Satoshi has been shortlisted twice, once in 1989 for UFO Diary and winning the Bronze Award (1997) in the 6 - 8 years category with John Agard for We Animals Would Like a Word With You. Also, The Ring of Words (ed. Roger McGough)illustrated by Satoshi has been shortlisted for the first Blue Peter Book Awards in the A Special Book to Keep Forever category. Blue Peter is a long running TV programme for children on the BBC. One judge is Keith Gray, from independent Children's Literature website ACHUKA.
   The Illustration Cupboard has announced their winter exhibition at The Air Gallery, London. New work by Satoshi will be showing so if you're in the area, check it out! It's showing from November 27 to December 2, 2000... The artwork will also be exhibited online so everyone will get to have a peek.
    Have you ordered your copy of Points of View with Professor Peekaboo yet? It'll be released on October 5, 2000. You should be able to get it for £7.99 at some online booksellers.

   nbsp;nsbp;nbsp; [31/08/00]   Visit Satoshi's publisher Andersen Press to see the forthcoming Autumn titles! What's Inside: the Alphabet book is being reprinted in November, 2000. It will retail for around £4.99. Make sure you see the new cover.

&nsbp;&nsbp;&nsbp; [27/08/00]   Quick! Go to the Illustration Cupboard to see work by Satoshi Kitamura! Original pen and coloured ink drawings, these could be your's to own! So hurry before you miss out. I like the drawings for an American edition of UFO Diary and the contents illustration for Paper Jungle.

&nsbp;&nsbp;&nsbp; [08/08/00]  The SatoshiLand 2000 competition is finally up! Good news is, Satoshi himself will be judging the entries. How could you possibly resist?
    Those with sharp eyes might have noticed Thatching: A Handbook by Nicolas Hall with Satoshi Kitamura listed as an illustrator at some online booksellers. This illustration consists only of the black and white cover page mock wood-cut drawing of a country cottage.
   An update on Points of view with Professor Peekaboo! This poetry collection "discusses green issues, animal welfare and why biros leak". Remember, it'll be released by The Bodley Head on 5th October, 2000!

     [16/05/00]  WOW! So much news... An update on The Comic Adventures of Boots! Satoshi had been working on this project on and off over the last few years. It doesn't appear that it will beout this year. But I'll try to keep you posted. Satoshi has just finished working on Points of View with Professor Peekaboo by John Agard. It'll be coming out later this year, published by The Bodley Head.
    At Reading Pictures: Art, Narrative & Childhood symposium, apart from participating in the exhibition, Satoshiwill be giving a speech.
    A translation of The Dictionary of Cliches by Betty Kirkpatrick (Bloomsbury, 1996) is being published in Japan by Kenkyusha.Shuppan in late May. satoshiland managed to get a sneak peek and Satoshi has illustrated this book with a fun, cheeky edge.     Who won the National Art Library Illustration Awards for 1999? Yes! It's Satoshi Kitamura! He was the overall winner for The Ring of Words edited by Roger McGough. Selected from around 200 entries, these awards wereorganised by the National Art Library at the Victoria and Albert Museum.
    Red Fox, a children's division of Random House is celebrating its 10th birthday. An exhibition of illustrations will tour around the UK in 2000. Many artists including Satoshi, have contributed their interpretationof a red fox.

    [11/04/00]   An exhibition at Adeane Gallery - Pictures This! is part of the symposium at Homerton College. From 22 August - 8 October, the show aims to "showcase the aesthetic, intellectual, imaginative and affective appeal of the contemporary picturebook". Satoshi Kitamura is one of several artists whose work will be displayed.

    [03/05/00] &nsbp; A new book collaboration between Satoshi Kitamura and John Agard will be released in June 2000! The book of poetry is called Weblines and will be published by Bloodaxe Books. It's listed at Specialist Books and also at BOL. The book will retail at around £8.95 and has 192 pages.

  &nsbp; [20/04/00]   Satoshi Kitamura designed signs for Diana Princess of Wales Children's Hospital. This signage was the winner of the Sign Designs Society's Special Needs Award for 1999. This was gleaned from Design Insight's Spring 2000 issue. Assorted Images was commissioned for this project.
